Art MEETS is a series of eight FREE art-making workshops and opportunities to make, explore, experience, transform, and share. Let your creativity shine!

Led by talented, supportive, and engaging arts facilitators, each workshop offers an opportunity to learn a new art skill, have fun, meet new community members, and find new and creative ways for self expression.

Art MEETS: Watercolour Painting Hacks
Facilitator: Christine Walker

Create unique and stunning effects using watercolour! Produce a series of miniature watercolour paintings and explore a wide variety of different watercolour techniques to create different effects, including wax resist, splatter, blotting, stencils, and everyday household items.

Experiment, explore, and focus on process over product – with collage! Pull images and text from a collection of magazines, maps, books, and other materials provided, then deconstruct them into fragments and reassemble them into new artistic works.

Create a beautiful tapestry with screen-printing! Using a series of images, patterns, and words, create a custom piece of functional artwork. Learn the basics of screen-printing and its various applications including mixing inks, pulling prints, and how to print on fabric.


Art MEETS: Encaustic Photo Transfer

Explore the encaustic photo transfer process! Using molten wax as an adhesive, learn how to use the encaustic photo transfer method to create beautiful pieces of personalized artwork. This workshop will provide participants with the building blocks for further independent exploration in encaustic painting and collage techniques.


Art MEETS: Postcard Flash Fiction

Visual arts and short fiction collide! Explore the different forms of flash fiction, including the drabble, sudden fiction, and the nano-tale. Learn the ins and outs of writing flash fiction, and create your own piece of artful flash fiction using engaging writing prompts and vintage postcards.
