It’s one of our favourite times of the year: the winter holidays are approaching and now is a great time to support local businesses, artists, and makers for all your gift-giving needs! Cynella’s Picks, our Program Manager:

The Scribe Bookstore on the Danforth in GreekTown is a rare, vintage and used bookstore filled with treasures including a nice section on the performing arts and a huge selection of original coloured plates from Jardineโ€™s Naturalistโ€™s Library from the 1800โ€™s that are under $20 each! Itโ€™s so much fun to spend time going through these postcard sized illustrations of animals, birds and fish to find a meaningful gift. You can use them to commemorate a favourite animal or bird or even area of the world or travel destination that holds significance.
  2. Douce France also on the Danforth is the answer to shopping for the foodie in your life – but be sure to snag a bag of the Churned Butter Fine Galettes Coated with Chocolate for yourself. You will not want to share them!
  3. Press Cafe & Vinyl at 2442 Danforth Ave. has a slew of new and used albums under $20 for the audiofile in your life. A gift of nostalgia might be perfect with a soundtrack to a holiday special, like the Chipmunks Christmas from 1980!
  4. The East End is a hotbed of great micro breweries but the crazy dog lady in Shana wants to recommend Black Lab Brewery as they are dog friendly (as are many – weโ€™re also looking at you Left Field!). Sadly, their namesake, Snoopy the Black Lab passed away this year but you can pick up one of their Snoopyโ€™s Legacy commemorative glasses for just $10.

  6. Finally, the Charlie Brown Christmas Soundtrack is one of Shana’s favourite things, so why not gift the experience of live music this season with tickets to a Charlie Brown Christmas Show! Composed by Vince Guaraldi, and performed by local artists Sullivan-Parker-Kettlewell at Hughโ€™s Room on Broadview on December 17th, 2023.
