EAST END ARTS ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL EAST END FAVOURITE, ARTCAVE!
After closing their doors on Danforth Avenue in late August, 2019, ArtCave has now found a new home at St. Matthew’s Clubhouse, in partnership with East End Arts.
TORONTO, October 11, 2019 – East End Arts is thrilled to announce a new partnership with ArtCave, a Toronto-based artist collective with a focus on art education and community art, which will now offer many of its arts programs for youth at St. Matthew’s Clubhouse, the home of East End Arts.
East End Arts and ArtCave are beginning their new partnership by launching Contemporary Art PA Day Camps, which invite campers ages 8-13 to go on field trips to contemporary art spaces, museums and galleries, and engage in arts-based activities like drawing, sculpting, and a variety of media. The first PA Day Camp takes place on Friday October 11th, 2019, and will reoccur on Fridays throughout 2019 and 2020, including Friday November 15th, and Friday December 6th, 2019. Both organizations will work together to introduce additional after-school programs into the 2020 season.
Sadly, at the end of August, 2019, ArtCave was forced to close their doors on Danforth Avenue due to rising rent costs. This is an unfortunate and common trend seen across the Toronto real estate market, particularly with small, local businesses. Respectively, East End Arts is happy to step in to provide space, which will ensure ArtCave programs continue engaging students in exhibition-related and –inspired art lessons, games, hands-on activities and dialogues.
“Affordability is something we hear time and time again from artists and organizations when asked about their challenges. We’re so happy to be able to provide space to ArtCave, an amazing arts organization in east Toronto. Their work aligns perfectly with our mission, and we strongly believe in the work they are doing to build skills for students and create more resilient communities through the arts. This is just the beginning and we can’t wait to continue adding more exciting art programs for young people and animating the St. Matthew’s Clubhouse,” says Shana Hillman, Executive Director of East End Arts.
“We are so delighted to announce our partnership with East End Arts. ArtCave has found a new home at the beautiful St. Matthew’s Clubhouse. We are so excited for this partnership, and the development of our new art programs. ArtCave will continue to offer innovative and progressive art programs in the east end. Bringing communities together, and building communities towards a better future through art, reflection, observation, skill building and exploration,” says ArtCave Co-Founder & Director, Naz Rahbar.
