ABOUT THE CRESCENT TOWN YOUTH ARTS PROJECT

The Crescent Town Youth Arts Project is a youth arts program designed to for youth living in the Crescent Town community. The principal goal of the Crescent Town Youth Arts Project is to engage youth as more than participants, allowing them to guide the vision, execution, and evaluation of the program. The selection process will heavily involve youth living in the Crescent Town community.

ABOUT THE CRESCENT TOWN COMMUNITY

Crescent Town is a self contained community within the east Toronto area, and is a designated Neighbourhood Improvement Area. Crescent Town is located near the intersection of Victoria Park Avenue and Danforth Avenue, and is connected directly to Victoria Park Subway Station via a sky-walk corridor. The community mainly consists of high-rise apartment complexes, and features a well equipped community programming space. The Crescent Town community has a diverse, well engaged, and fun Youth Arts Council, which meets regularly, who will the primary youth engaged in the development and evaluation of the Crescent Town Youth Arts Project.

In March 2014, the City of Toronto identified 31 Toronto neighbourhoods to be designated as Neighbourhood Improvement Areas (NIAs) under the Toronto Strong Neighbourhoods Strategy 2020. The Toronto Strong Neighbourhood Strategy 2020 supports healthy communities across Toronto by partnering with residents, businesses, and agencies to invest in people, services, programs, and facilities, with the goal of strengthening the social economic, and physical conditions, and deliver local impact for city-wide change.

SELECTION PROCESS

Proposals will be reviewed by the Crescent Town Youth Council, alongside East End Arts and Crescent Town Club staff. Selected proposals of interest will then be invited to attend a Show-and-Share demonstration.

During the Show-and-Share session, selected facilitators will be asked to present a 30-minute, hands-on demonstration for a small group comprised of Crescent Town Youth, as well as Crescent Town and East End Arts staff members. The demonstrations will allow all youth and staff to briefly “try out” the proposed arts program, and get hands-on experience in participating in the workshop. We ask that the facilitator(s) be prepared to answer any questions youth may have about the facilitator and/or the proposed arts program. Facilitators will be paid $100 for participation in the 30-minute Show-and-Share demonstration. East End Arts will provide basic supplies for the demonstration, including a selection of visual arts materials, A/V equipment, etc. More details regarding the Show-and-Share demonstration will be provided to selected facilitator(s).

Following the Show-and-Share demonstrations, Crescent Town youth will work collaboratively to select the workshop they are most interested in participating in. Preference will be given to arts programs that directly respond to the Program Themes and Mediums of Interest, and that culminate in final exhibition, performance, and/or sharing with the boarder Crescent Town community. At this point, the chosen arts facilitator(s) will be contacted.

The Facilitator(s) will be provided with:

  • Fair and transparent facilitator fees (CARFAC/CADA-ON rates)
