To ensure that the cost of each ArtMEETS workshop does not serve as a barrier to participation, community members have the opportunity to participate in a workshop at no cost via an Energy Exchange. An Energy Exchange is a way for community members to pay for an ArtMEETS workshop with their time and energy, as opposed to paying with money.

Energy Exchanges are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, with preference being given to individuals who self-identify as coming from a low income household, and/or those who self-identify as belonging to one or more of the following equity priority groups, as identified by the Toronto Arts Council and the Ontario Arts Council:

  • Indigenous
  • Francophone
  • Person of Colour
  • Deaf
  • Person with Disability/ies
  • Person Living with Mental Illness

  1. Set-Up & Take-Down
The person in the Set-Up & Take-Down role will be responsible for supporting the facilitator in setting up tables and chairs before the start of the workshop, and laying out workshop materials such as brushes, paints, needles, water, and more, at the direction of the facilitator and East End Arts staff. This role will also help to collect all of the art supplies at the end of the workshop, and help the facilitator to pack up the supplies. The person in this role is expected to arrive at East End Arts, St. Matthew’s Clubhouse, no later than 12:30pm, 30 minutes before the start of the workshop, and to stay until 4:30pm, 30 minutes after the end of the workshop. Persons in this role must be able to safely and comfortably lift 20lbs for this Energy Exchange role.
  2. Event or Office Volunteer
The person in this role will dedicate approximately 2 hours of volunteer time at one of our upcoming events, or at our office during normal business hours. For an event volunteer, we ask you to commit to helping us at events like, East York Days, our outdoor concert series at the East York Civic Centre, or Nuit Blanche East Danforth, our all-night art party on Danforth Avenue. Duties might include set-up, take-down, audience engagement, or general outreach. For an office volunteer, we ask you to commit to helping us around our office (450 Broadview Ave, St. Matthew’s Clubhouse) with general administrative or organizational tasks, to be confirmed before your arrival. Persons in this role will be asked to commit to fulfilling the hours at a future date, which will be set up by an East End Arts staff member.
