Mark your calendars, because you’re invited to our Open House Party to kick off the 2024 Summer Season!

This year marks our eleventh year as a community arts organization in east Toronto, and our sixth year in our Riverdale Park home at St. Matthew’s Clubhouse! So far 2024 has seen us welcome on new staff members (Hi Eileen and Rashana!), rejuvenate old programs (BYOBeads with Mel), forge new partnerships (yay East End Kids Pride), and refresh our Clubhouse space after our unfortunate winter flood. It’s been a year of change and transition! This summer we are excited to present programs like ArtMEETS, Girls & Enby Mural Camp, Seniors in the East: A Storybook Program, From Here to Wear with Norwin Anne, Life Drawing with AGA Arts, and more!

Please join us on Saturday July 6th, drop-in style from 12:00-4:00PM, for a Community Celebration at our Clubhouse to kick off the summer season with us! There will be cake and light snacks to enjoy, a fun arts station to get creative and ‘plant’ your own ideas of inspiration, great local music on our porch by Araz Salek (Tar), Roa Lee (Gayagegum) and Nour Kdn (Percussion) from Labyrinth Ontario, and the beloved children’s music duo Sing Along Tim and Lori Nancy Kalamanski, and more fun activities! You’ll also get to meet the new EEA team, chat with many of the local artists we work with, and mingle with local arts-loving community members like yourself! We hope to see you there.

ACTIVITIES TO ENJOY:

  • Enjoy complementary drinks and treats like fruit punch, sheet cake, and snack boards;
  • Enjoy live music on our porch by three talented musicians from Labyrinth Ontario (Araz, Roa, and Nour), and by Sing Along Tim and Lori Nancy Kalamanski;
  • Get artsy at our “Future Pots & Seed Bombs” Arts Station led by artist Reia Tariq where you can paint your own plant pot and create your own seed-bombs containing pollinator friendly/Ontario local flora;
  • Hang out, picnic, dance, and sunbathe in Riverdale Park (we will provide the hoola hoops, bubbles and wands, and sidewalk chalk);
  • Meet the East End Arts staff team and many local artists who help to make programs at East End Arts so special;
  • And more!

Please note that East End Arts will be accepting donations at our Summer Open House. As we are a nonprofit arts organization funded only in-part by the City of Toronto, we continue to rely on the support of sponsors and private donors to fund our work. We greatly appreciate your support! You can donate to us with money in-person, or make a donation online through our PayPal HERE.

ABOUT ARTISTS:

  1. 12:00 – 4:00PM – Reia Tariq “Future Pots & Seed Bombs” Arts Station
    Reia Tariq is an emerging Program Administrator and Arts Facilitator. She currently works at VIBE Arts where she helps to lead different arts workshops that promote positive mental health in youth ages 12 and below. She is also an Arts Facilitator and has recently worked with Arts Etobicoke on Words of Wisdom project, and Beautiful Minds as an Arts Mentor (a grassroots mental health advocacy group based in Scarborough).

  2. 12:30PM – Labyrinth Ontario Musical Performance
    Labyrinth Ontario is pleased to present a musical performance from Araz Salek (Tar), Roa Lee (Gayagegum) and Nour Kdn (Percussion)!

    Labyrinth Ontario is a not-for-profit, and our mandate is to present and promote the study and enjoyment of the modal music traditions of Central, West, and South Asia, and the Mediterranean. We have brought world-class artists to Toronto, created a 14 member ensemble dedicated to experimenting and engaging with multiple musical traditions, and introduced modal music pedagogies into schools. We meet on the third Thursday of every month at the Tranzac, anyone curious about makam is welcome!

  3. 1:30PM & 2:30PM – Sing Along Tim & Lori Nancy Kalamanski Musical Performances
    Sing Along Tim & Lori Nancy Kalamanski have toured all over Ontario and recorded three stunning albums of extraordinarily good music for kids as “Sing Along Tim & The Pacifiers”.  Their songs have been featured on awards winning kids podcasts and programs including “The Children’s Hour”, “Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl” and “Radioactive Kids”. Tim’s songs have been finalists in the International Songwriting Competition.  During the Pandemic they created and live streamed over 40 interactive shows of music, crafts and games for young families isolating at home as “Sing Along Tim’s Homemade House Concerts” and “Penelope Pieapple’s Perplexing Puzzles”.  They are both proud East Enders. Lori Nancy is currently creating a new performance piece as part of “Wren’s Recipes” and  Tim is working on a one person show featuring some of his original songs for grown-ups.

HEALTH & SAFETY:

East End Arts has always been dedicated to the health and safety of all its participants and our community at large. We would also like to remind you to take care of yourselves and others as much as possible, which includes staying at home when you are not feeling well; cleaning your hands often with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub; covering your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze; and more. Please note that throughout our Summer Open House we will have open windows and doors, allowing the celebration to take place inside and outside on our porch, and readily-available hand sanitizer and face masks. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
