The second season of TAPESTRY, our at-home textile art program for seniors, is wrapping up with an exhibition at St. Matthew’s Clubhouse this month, and we want you to come!

TAPESTRY Stitched Stories Exhibition
June 14th-17th, 2024
In-person at St. Matthew’s Clubhouse
Upstairs at 450 Broadview Avenue

TAPESTRY: Stitched Stories was a hybrid textile-based art program that included 25 seniors from across Toronto to try new textile art skills, learn basic digital literacy skills, and connect and get creative with other seniors! The program took place over the course of six months – August 2023 to February 2024 – and featured six monthly textile workshops, all led by different textile artist facilitators that were chosen by our seniors. Workshops presented included: Janet Hinkle with Textile Pattern Design, Sabine Spare with Shibori Dyeing, Morgan Kageshiongai with Inuit-style Tapestry Art, Camila Salcedo with Woven Darning & Visible Mending, and Carolina Reis with Drawing with Threads.

Over the course of this program, senior participants completed a panel (roughly 10X10″) each month that demonstrates their new textile art skill in a creative way. Now, this incredible program is culminating with an exhibition at St. Matthew’s Clubhouse for people to view and enjoy these phenomenal tapestries created by our talented artists. Come visit us to check it all out!
