Laura Grier

She/They

Laura Grier is a Sahtu Délı̨nę First Nations artist and printmaker, born in Somba ké (Yellowknife), and raised in Alberta. Laura has lived in many places and after moving to Toronto in 2018, they found love, home and community in the Beaches. Laura is a strong advocate for Indigenous representation, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in the arts and the academy. They love expanding the possibilities of teaching and artistic creativity and hopes to help with the growth of future artists and artistic communities. Laura finds the most joy in creating artwork and walking their happy black lab along the lake.

They hold a BFA from NSCADU (K’jipuktuk) and an MFA from OCAD University (Toronto) and is a PhD student at York University. Laura worked at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity as the Printmaking Practicum and has also attended artist residencies there. They have had work exhibited at The Art Gallery of Guelph, The Robert McLaughlin Gallery. Xpace Cultural Center, Collision Gallery, Harcourt House, DC3 Art Projects, SNAP Gallery, and ArtsPlace. Laura has received grants and awards for their work, including an Indigenous project grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, Toronto Arts Council, and a doctoral SSHRC fellowship for their PhD studies.
